Is America Now Experiencing God’s Judgment?

Has Our Country Become Worse than Sodom and Gomorrah?

For the last 15 years, archaeologists have been excavating Tall el-Hammam. The ancient city is in the same geographic location as Sodom and Gomorrah were in Abraham’s time. 15 years’ worth of excavation work has revealed five-foot thick layers of charcoal, ash, melted mudbricks, and even melted pottery... evidence of intense fire and heat. Over 4000 years later, the land around there remains unsuitable for crops of any kind due to the chemical composition of the soil. As the Biblical account (Genesis 18-19) describes, Sodom and Gomorrah certainly experienced God’s judgment. God destroyed both for their unrepentant homosexuality, along with other unnamed sins.

But is America now worse than Sodom and Gomorrah?

Our country has become increasingly paganized over the last 50 years... not only in the halls of city, state, and federal governments but throughout our entire culture. This includes schools, courts, media companies, businesses, and even some churches promoting abortion, encouraging all forms of sexual immorality, and fostering transgenderism. Adultery, perversion, and sexual sin have become the norm in American life...

In Our Government

The Biden Administration has appointed a professing Satanist and homosexuality promoter Dr. Demetre Daskalakis as the official White House National “Monkeypox Response Deputy Coordinator”. Demetre proudly wears a tattoo on his chest of the official symbol of the Church of Satan. Daskalakis has openly shared pictures of his tattoos and outfits outside of work via his social media accounts.

Democrat Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey want to let teenagers get over-the-counter body-changing testosterone hormone to a wider range of people, such as depressed teenage girls. The two have requested that federal agencies reclassify testosterone’s status as a controlled substance so that transgender people can access it more easily. They contend that “doing so would align with the Biden administration’s goals to further LGBTQ+ rights and transgender Americans’ access to gender-affirming care.”

The Biden administration has proudly followed through on its commitment to public displays of “gay pride” by allowing LGBTQ flags to be raised over all U.S. Embassies worldwide.

Since the overturn of Roe v. Wade, several of our nation’s politicians and their supporters have geared up to pass nationwide protection for abortion on demand so states cannot limit it in any way.

California Gov. Newsom is using billboards and a website to help women obtain abortions. The billboards advertise the website, which instructs out-of-state minors on how to get an abortion in California without their parent’s permission. What is worst of all are billboards in Mississippi and Oklahoma that quote the words of Jesus in Mark 12:31… “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these,” as a deeply blasphemous justification for promoting abortion.

In Our Schools and Universities

Prayer has been banned in our schools since 1962. In its place, children as young as four years of age are being conditioned to view drag queens, homosexuality, and transgenderism as normal behaviors. Idaho’s Department of Health and Welfare is implementing a sex education curriculum (September 2022) that teaches elementary school students what it calls “porn literacy.” The curriculum includes instruction on “kink and power, pleasure, sexual identity, sexual acts, and sexual exploration in relation to pornography.”

Think it can’t get worse? Think again... Vanderbilt University’s Medical Clinic in Nashville has a program called “Trans Buddies.” The “buddies” are trans-activists from the community who attend appointments with trans patients, monitoring the doctors to guard against what they call “unsafe” behavior, such as misgendering. As early as 2020, the clinic admitted that they would give and have given irreversible hormone drugs to children as young as 13. Vanderbilt drugs, chemically castrates, and performs double mastectomies on minors. Like Planned Parenthood, the school clinic openly boasts of how much money they are making from these activities. Somehow, I don’t think this was happening in Sodom and Gomorrah.

In the Supreme Court

The United States Supreme Court’s infamous 2015 majority decision in the Obergefell v. Hodges case made gay marriage legal in America. Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the majority opinion, just as he did in the court’s other three major gay rights cases decided since 1996. Perversions that are offensive in the sight of God are now being given a stamp of approval in our courts.

In Our Media

Entertainment giants like Disney, Marvel, and others are producing shows celebrating homosexuality and transgenderism while unapologetically marketing those films to children. It seems that every current T.V. show, many commercials, and most movies now have prominent LGBTQ characters. (See my post on how this trend is now infiltrating children’s cartoons.)

In Our Churches

America has been at the forefront of the LGBTQ Pride movement for decades, and the Church has foolishly tolerated it. Leadership in churches that were once the foundation of this nation are turning a blind eye to homosexuality, abortion, and false teachers under the banner of “God is Love,” which helps to keep the seats filled and the mortgage paid.

In some denominations, it has become commonplace for so-called churches to reject Biblical values, host drag queen hours, marry gay couples, and promote transgenders to positions of leadership.

In early September 2022, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention (ERLC) trustees unanimously elected Brent Leatherwood as president of that organization. Leatherwood wants to keep abortion legal for mothers who seek it. He recently signed a joint letter calling on politicians not to criminalize women having abortions. “Women are victims of abortion,” the letter reads, “and require our compassion and support as well as ready access to counseling and social services in the days, weeks, months, and years following an abortion.” Abortion advocates like Leatherwood cite a lack of social justice, among other things, as the actual reason we have abortions. These are not biblical views.

Democrat Raphael Warnock, who has been vocal about his support for the so-called “right” to abortion and leads Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia (where the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. used to preach), was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2021.

In 2018, 66 “pastors” in Iowa signed a letter supporting abortion. They sent their letter to the Des Moines Register advocating for abortion on demand and admonishing Iowa legislators to stop their efforts to reduce the number of baby murders in Iowa. Those signing the letter were from the United Methodist Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Episcopal Church, Presbyterian Church USA, United Church of Christ, and American Baptist churches. 

Last year, A Texas pastor stood on the state Capitol steps declaring that pro-abortion activists must “take God back” from pro-lifers motivated by their faith to protect unborn babies. Rev. Erika Forbes led a small group of religious leaders protesting pro-life bills that state lawmakers were considering at the time.

Over the last twenty years, there has been a significant rise in the number of pro-abortion women “pastors” in American churches. Sadly, increasing numbers of millennials and other progressive types ignorantly support the idea of women leading their churches. Those who approve of women pastors rely on “gender and transgender equality”, abortion is healthcare”, and “women’s rights” arguments. Those who disagree are labeled as “racists, chauvinists, legalists, or misogynists (women haters)” to silence critics. None of it is Biblical.

Sexual sin is rebellion against God. The Church in America has pathetically failed to speak out with a loud voice warning the nation against sexual sin and abortion. These so-called pastors, who should be protecting their congregations, are instead advocating for these things. I could fill pages with the names of more pastors doing just that.

Rebellion Against God and Its Consequences

When one denies the clear biblical teaching of Scripture, it becomes an issue of rebellion against God and putting people in imminent danger of God's judgment.

Many nations of ancient times are nonexistent today, having brought God’s judgment upon themselves for their sin. Edom (Jeremiah 49:17–22), Assyria (Zephaniah 2:13–15), Sodom (Genesis 18:20), Babylon (Jeremiah 51), and others were all destroyed for their evil before the Lord.

Two of God’s most despised sins... sexual immorality and pride... are at the core of today’s Gay Pride movement and are now being promoted and encouraged by leadership in all corners of America. As John Calvin wrote almost 500 years ago, “when God wants to judge a nation, He gives them wicked rulers”.

Today, wicked rulers in America are rapidly taking our once Christian nation down a path that has always led to a nation’s destruction. Sodom and Gomorrah now pale in comparison to what is going on in our country today…
