Millions of Catholic believers love Jesus Christ, have repented of their sins, and submitted their lives to Him as their Lord and Savior. This post is in no way meant to be critical of them… but rather of Roman Catholic Church leadership in the Vatican who seem to disrespect them almost daily by displaying a remarkable lack of discernment.
Last week, the Vatican debuted its new mascot for the Catholic Church’s 2025 Jubilee to engage young people… a juvenile cartoon character named “Luce”. Named after a Latin word for light, the mascot is part of a set. Luce's pilgrim friends are Fe, Xin, and Sky.
No mention of their pronouns…
Sadly, nearly all Catholic news outlets are parroting this foolishness as if nothing is wrong with it.
The name “Luce” seems eerily similar to “Lucifer” which has part of its roots in the same Latin word “lux” meaning light… Lucifer (Satan) disguises himself as an angel of light.
Organizer Archbishop Rino Fisichella describes Luce as “Clad in a yellow raincoat, mud-stained boots, and a pilgrim’s cross, Luce’s mission is to guide young pilgrims toward hope and faith with her trusty dog Santino at her side… Luce’s shining eyes as “a symbol of the hope of the heart.”
I thought that Jesus Christ was to be the hope of our hearts…
Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the Lord. (Psalm 31:24)
Our hope comes from God. May He fill you with joy and peace because of your trust in Him. May your hope grow stronger by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)
Archbishop Fisichella went on to say, “The mascot was created from the desire to enter the world of pop culture, so beloved by our young people.” He also announced that the mascot will debut at Lucca Comics and Games, Italy’s
celebrated convention for all things comics, video games, and fantasy, where the Vatican’s Dicastery for Evangelization will host a space dedicated to “Luce and Friends.”
Comics, video games, and fantasy? What happened to the saving message of the Gospel?
Even worse, a large doll-like figure of Luce will be the face of the Holy See’s pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. It will represent the Vatican’s pavilion theme, “Beauty Brings Hope”, alongside Caravaggio’s “The Entombment of Christ.” Such a side-by-side display of this painting and a cartoon character demonstrates a mind-numbing contempt for the sanctity of Christ’s sacrifice.
Beauty is temporal and has nothing to do with hope. Our “blessed hope” is the joyful assurance of the glorious end times appearing of Jesus Christ, our great God and Savior.
Further adding to the foolishness, the archbishop also announced that "The image represents a happy union between Christian symbols and Japanese culture."
Really?
99% of Japan’s culture revolves around the two false religions of Shinto and Buddhism. Since when do we use the things of this world to “market” the church as if it were a tube of toothpaste or a box of sugary breakfast cereal? The church is to preach the Gospel and stand apart from the world and its cultures. The Apostle Paul wrote this to the church at Ephesus…
Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. (Ephesians 5:11)
Is this a Bud “Light” moment for the Roman Catholic Church?

That is most obviously not a "Pilgrim's cross.". It's a stang.

If Lucifer was shortened to a nickname, “Luce” would definitely be it.
