This piece has been very helpful to me. I have two questions for you: do you understand why Mormons find the cross offensive? And, do Mormons deny the Holy Spirit exists?

I am reading through Hebrews 10 and it references Matthew 12: 31-32 in regards to blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

In the past I have been told to never send a cross emoji ✝️ to a Mormon because they find it offensive.

I appreciate you taking the time to share!

Those are great questions...

To answer the first one, Mormons do distance themselves from the cross. Mormon temples do not have any crosses inside or out. Mormon leadership holds that the Garden of Gethsemane was the place where Christ’s atonement took place, not the cross. Mormons also consider the Resurrection as more important than the cross. This does not at all square with Galatians 3:13, which tells us Christ’s death on the cross was what redeemed us... or Romans 5:9, which reads, “Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him.”

Since Mormons are not Christians but a cult, 1 Corinthians 1:18 brings us even more clarification... “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.”

As for the second question, Mormons don’t deny the Holy Spirit exists... But they get it all wrong. Mormons believe that God is the Father of the spirits of all men and women, that Jesus is literally God’s Son both in the spirit and in the flesh, and that the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit separate and distinct from both the Father and the Son. This denies the deity of Christ and the Trinity at the same time. To reject or minimize the true Holy Spirit is indeed blasphemy. Matthew 12:31-32 reads...

“I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”

When I saw this, I smiled before I actually began to read it. I am amazed at your genuine passion for God's truth. I am not making light of this message, because as I have told you more than once, I feel your heart. I said all of that to say this, I have studied with some of the Mormons as well as witnessed to one of the two who came to my door. It was about the Book of Mormon. I told him I was a believer in Christ and that I had in earlier years studied with some of the Mormons. I also told him that the Word of God does not need any props. It stands alone. I saw the spirit on him as I was speaking to him, and he agreed with what I said. However, I have heard a lot of stuff about them and the Jehovah's Witness that I have never experienced. However, it does not mean that it is not true. Thanks again for this message. I think we all are going to be surprised who made it in.

No. They are not. They’re good people, just not Christian.

So many false doctrines have arisen since Christ's ascension. Why? When the simple, beautiful truth is in plain sight in the synoptic gospels.

Thank you

I have asked this question many times.

From Christians, I have generally been waved off with a phrase of "they are crazy".

From Mormons I get the phrase "sorta"

From there I'm told by both to attend their church or temple to find the "truth".

We have Mormon neighbors who are wonderful people and good friends. We never discuss religion as we all understand there are unresolvable differences.

Still good to be aware of the differences.

My experience exactly.

Thank you for the accurate explanation of differences between Mormonism and Christianity. Hopefully it will help someone seeking the truth to make a wise decision.

The name “Christian” has been adopted by far too many which deny the basic beliefs of the Bible and has been used to confuse and deceive people. We can only pray they recognize the truth before as Jesus warns in Matthew 7:21-23, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven…many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord in Your name did we not prophesy, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name do many miracles?’ “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'”

Excellent post, Jim. Thank you for breeching this topic. Until very recently, I didn't know a whole lot about Moronism.

Funny story... Our 20 year old son accidentally went to a Mormon Church his first week of basic training. When picking a meeting room in the Chapel, he saw the words "Jesus Christ" and figured it was similar to our church. He quickly figured out it was not.

I also discovered another critical distinction between the two views. Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers. They are both "sons of God." As you mentioned in the post, they deny the trinity and the deity of Christ.

Very tragic the level of deception. Stay cool, friend.
