I was raised with Catholic traditions (only one parent was brought up Catholic, the other Methodist) and for 8th grade only I attended a Catholic school where I was taught to pray the rosary. I never learned the holy queen mother thing you mentioned, never even heard of it, we recited only the Apostles Creed, Hail Mary, and the Lord’s Prayer.
Other than that different experience, I complete agree with all you’ve said here. I’ve avoided the advertisements EVERYWHERE for that app and I knew based on who I saw advertising it, as well as the descriptions, that it was bad news.
They are leading people astray. I pray anyone who is a true believer sees this for what it is and never even looks into using it.
I am sorry that you were so poorly catechized in the Catholic Church that you believe Catholics treat Mary as a goddess. Point to your source in the Catechism for this please. As you should know, the Rosary begins with the sign of the cross, the Apostle’s creed and ends with:
O God, whose only-begotten Son,
by His life, death, and Resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation;
grant, we beseech thee,
that while meditating upon these mysteries
of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we may imitate what they contain
and obtain what they promise,
through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Nowhere in the Rosary are we worshiping anyone except OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. Each decade is a devotional of a mystery from the Gospel - Glorious, Joyful, Sorrowful and Luminous - that are essentially a snapshot of the New Testament. We pray to Mary, who was and remains closest to Jesus, to become handmaids of the Lord as she did. In other words, to joyfully fulfill his commandments even when we do not understand how we fit into the big picture.
Thank you for your comment… You are correct, the Catholic Catechism does not cast Mary as a “goddess”, but many Catholics including the current Pope do. However, the Bible always trumps Catholic tradition.
Consider the doctrine of the Assumption as raising Mary to a position comparable to that of her Son. Some Roman Catholics go so far as to teach that Mary was resurrected on the third day, just like Jesus was, and that Mary ascended into heaven, just like Jesus did. To attribute identical events to Mary is to ascribe some of the attributes of Christ who is, was, and will always be God effectively elevating her to deity-like status. This is why Mary is venerated, worshiped, adored, and prayed to. To teach the Assumption of Mary and is a step toward making her equal to Christ is essentially proclaiming Mary’s deity or goddess. The Assumption of Mary is not found anywhere in Scripture.
Praying to Mary or any other dead person is unbiblical. The Bible nowhere instructs us to pray to anyone other than God. The Bible nowhere encourages or even mentions, believers asking individuals in heaven for their prayers. Why, then, do many Catholics pray to Mary? Why do they petition the dead and request their prayers?
I agree with your assessment of the Hallow app, it is Roman Catholic through and through, and as such is not theologically appropriate for Protestant Christians; however, you have been misled in regards to The Apostles Creed. Many Christian churches use The Apostles Creed, I am an LCMS Lutheran (the conservative body) and we, along with many others love and appreciate The Creed as a scriptural and concise statement of belief. The entirety of is Biblically based including the statement that Christ descended into hell, the scriptural basis is found in 1 Peter.
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison,”
1 Peter 3:18-19
This further explanation from our study Bible helps with the understanding of this verse…
19 Christ descended into hell to declare His victory over death and all evil forces. His power surpasses all others. Scripture does not teach that He offered these spirits a second chance for salvation. “It is enough if we know that Christ descended into hell, destroyed hell for all believers, and delivered them from the power of death and of the devil, from eternal condemnation and the jaws of hell.
So the belief that Christ descended into hell as a part of punishment for sin is completely erroneous. No, as scripture says, He proclaimed victory!
This all revolves around the translation of the word “hell” into Hebrew and Greek into English. In the Hebrew Scriptures, the word used to describe the realm of the dead is sheol. It simply means “the place of the dead” or “the place of departed souls/spirits.” In the New Testament, the Greek equivalent of sheol is hades, which also refers to “the place of the dead.”
Revelation 20:11–15 makes a clear distinction between hades and the lake of fire (hell). The lake of fire or hell is the permanent and final place of judgment for the lost. Hades is a temporary place. Many people refer to both hades and the lake of fire as “hell,” and this causes confusion. Jesus did not go to a place of torment after His death, but He did go to Hades.
Hades has two divisions… a place of blessing and a place of judgment (Matthew 11:23; 16:18; Luke 10:15; 16:23). The places of the saved and the lost are both generally called “hades” in the Bible. The place of the saved is called “Abraham’s bosom” (KJV) or “paradise” in Luke 23:43. The places of the saved and the lost are separated by a “great chasm” (Luke 16:26). When Jesus died, He went to the blessed side of sheol, or paradise. All the believing dead go to the blessed side of hades to await the resurrection. Did Jesus go to sheol/hades? According to Jesus’ own words, He went to the blessed region of sheol (hades) and not the lake of fire… or as we commonly call it today… hell.
I wish that the Apostles Creed translated the word differently!
I was baptized in Lutheran church, raised with Catholic and Protestant traditions and began my young adult life in a Lutheran church, baptizing my own children there as well.
The Lutheran church is the closest to Catholic of all the Protestant denominations and as such, many traditions, including recitation of the Apostle’s Creed, as well as prayers to saints, are still followed. Another tradition they follow is baptism of infants, which is not Biblical and which I had a wrong belief about for years, thinking I was saved, until I really understood the gospel and gave my life to Jesus many years later.
I thank God that He continued to pursue me until I finally, truly heard and understood.
Truly, there is no thing new, under the sun, the deceiver's heresies continues unabated.

5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

CHRIST is "THE ROCK", not Peter, I see that to this day, Jesus remains "The Stone of Offense" and the "Stumbling Block" for many...
Apparently, I was led to this substack for a reason.
You seem to make more sense about such things, as this particular app, along with other Catholic websites, that I have frequented over the years since leaving our long established Catholic community more than a decade ago, after our Priest and Bishop were involved in deviant practices years prior.
I was raised Protestant.
We were taught that each individual had a personal relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. It was that inner voice, that seeing with the mind's eye that kept each person on the path of righteousness.
It was through our faith in God, that we would be led down the right path when faced with the dilemma of a fork in the road. We were taught that man closes doors but God opens the windows for us to find our way through life on this earth and onto the steps of seeing our Father in Heaven, when God says "Your work is done here."
We also learned the God, does indeed, have a sense of humor, as experienced through our many failings on our life's journey.
When I married an Irish Catholic, I agreed to follow the Catholic Faith and raise our children as Catholics. This was a workable solution, at the time, and I don't regret it.
Both children are Christians and as they age, become more aligned with Christ's teachings. In fact, I've noticed that the King James Version of the Bible is now used by them, rather than their Catholic Bibles. That's very interesting, but not the end all be all.
What is important is that people find God, through the teachings of Jesus and make the determination whether or not to participate in today's community of any religion.
We, along with many, have left the church community, (regardless of the religion or sect) because we witnessed how evil has infiltrated all religious sects, and many are now infiltrated with globalism, socialism and other isms that have absolutely nothing to do with God's Will, His Kingdom or His Teachings through his Son, Jesus Christ.
That was made very obvious during the scamdemic of "covid", along with other issues prior to. When churches (of any religion) become the stewards of Government, rather than of God, the people will suffer, which we are witnessing today.
I can read the Bible and pray to God at my home in the woods on the lake and enjoy my sanctuary everyday, in peace and solitude.
So, I never fell for the "app-trap" or the Religious websites, since every one of them asks for $$$$'s......"chump change"....
As far as finding a religious community with others who have similar beliefs, I've been there, done that and it ain't all that it is cracked up to be. I just live my best life, imperfect as I am and if I can help someone in need, I do it. Otherwise, I take care of my own and go about my day-to-day life one step at a time.
I've learned the hard way, God works in mysterious ways.
Thank for this heartfelt comment... I attended Catholic School until the age of 14 and then walked away from the Catholic Church when I was 16.... I hear you!
Jesus didn't come down to earth, suffer and die to establish a book. He came to establish a church. To put all emphasis on a book and nothing else is to lose a lot of the truth of what Christ was trying to teach us. Before Jesus ascended into heaven He told his apostles, "I am going to send you what My Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high." Luke 24:49.
He didn't say "stay in the city until I write and give you the Bible". The Bible is Holy yes and is the word of God. But God is not limited by the Bible. He gave power and authority to the Church, the Holy Catholic Church, which He established, after the establishment of which came from it the Bible.
Do not limit yourself or try to box God into one book and that is it. Then we would be no better than the Jewish people of Jesus' time who only paid attention to the book of the law and failed to even recognize Christ and His work.
Jesus started His Church, THE Church, not the Catholic Church, that was started by gentile “Pharisee” types. The inspired word of God directly contradicts a lot of what the Catholic Church teaches. The word of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit are key, not what men established in contradiction to God’s word.
