The Generation Z Time Bomb

Generation Z includes young people born in 1996 and after, with the oldest members of this group turning 27 this year. Within the next two decades, Gen Z members will begin to have an oversized influence in American politics, culture, and faith.

Will this become an existential threat to America as we know it?

Gen Z, along with Millennials, will become the largest voting bloc in the upcoming 2024 elections. Members of Gen Z voted in record numbers in the last midterm election, and some say they were partially responsible for the lack of an expected “red wave”.

Preliminary results from 2022 midterm exit polls noted that 61 percent of Gen Z voted for Democratic candidates while 36 percent voted for the GOP. Around 65 percent voted to protect abortion access. Nearly 70 percent of these young people believe abortion should be legal in “all or most cases,” with only 30 percent considering abortion to be morally wrong.

61% of Generation Z women voted for Democrats in 2022. Gen Z men were more split, with only 45% voting for Democrats. Gen Z voter turnout has been consistently increasing, especially for women. In the 2022 election, about 61% of Gen Z voters turned out, and that is expected to grow to 67% in 2024. This is in stark contrast to prior generations, who typically voted at a rate of around 17% in midterms. As older voters pass away, Gen Z voters will become a highly influential part of the electorate.

Generation Z has grown up with an internet where there is an overabundance of information, a shortage of knowledge, and a lack of wisdom. As a generation, they want to be protected and insulated from ideas that make them feel uncomfortable or “unsafe”.

The lack of everyday general knowledge among Generation Z is mind-numbing. Consider that many cannot read cursive handwriting or an analog-type clock. Many don’t know what continent they live on. Essential addition and multiplication skills are virtually non-existent among many. They don’t know when America was founded or who fought in the Civil War. They don’t know how many states there are in the Union. Even with the immigration crisis at America’s southern border, they can’t name the two countries that border the U.S. Don’t take my word for this; go to Justin Fleccas’ YouTube channel and watch a few of his on-the-street interviews. (Notice how many of them hold their cell phones in their hands as they walk about.)

At the same time, the Gen Z students who do attend college come out of those supposed bastions of higher learning only to become more open to socialism. 55% of these college graduates have a favorable view of socialism. Sadly, their negative opinions about capitalism are often based on supposed inequality, ginned-up racism, and fraudulent climate concerns. Gen Z members are almost twice as likely as older generations to want an activist government.

So much for future economic freedom, independence, and personal responsibility...

As Generation Z members enter the workforce, they bring their emoji-filled texting instead of adequate written communications skills. According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, these young people attempt to make their résumés stand out to potential employers by including emojis and cartoon avatars. Worse, many of today’s college kids don’t know how to send a formal letter or email. Consequently, new Gen Z hires often have to be taught how to properly use email for organizational communication rather than emoji-filled texts.

Pew research reports that Gen Zer’s are enrolling in college in more significant numbers than Millennials and Gen Xers did in their time. This is not a good thing based on post-enrollment beliefs and attitudes for the group as a whole. For many, college teaches them that truth is subjective, not objective.

Members of Generation Z tend to reject traditional gender roles and family values. As a group, they support the concept of gender fluidity. According to Pew, Gen Z members accept those who do not identify as a man or a woman as normal. Sadly, nearly 60% of Gen Z members think that paper and online forms asking about gender should include options other than “male” and “female”.

Gen Z Seniors at a New Mexico high school students are calling for passing House Bill 134, “Menstrual Products in School Bathrooms Act”. One student explained, “Mandate menstrual products in public school restrooms, and from there, we (can build) on the intersectionality that they will dress all-gender restrooms, and one men’s restroom for an educational building.”

Does that last sentence make about as much sense as a screen door on a submarine… or is it just me?

Recently, several of those same high school students rallied at the state capitol in support of the bill and shared their own experiences with menstruation with lawmakers. One student, speaking out, said, “My name is Andrew. I am a born and raised New Mexican, and I am in strong support of this bill. I came out as trans my sophomore year of high school, and that same year I missed over a dozen days of class because I did not have menstrual products at school,”

The fact that these kids actually support the idea that men would need menstrual products is mind-numbing. At the same time, they are asking the government to take care of them rather than their parents.

Gen Z members are interested in faith and spirituality but not necessarily in Biblical Christianity. Americans between 18 and 29 aren’t going to church in numbers as their grandparents and great-grandparents did. A recent Deseret News and Marist Poll survey found that only 21% of young adults report going to church once or twice a month. And for all that generation’s talk about being spiritual, these young adults aren’t even inclined to pray. Slightly more than a quarter say they pray daily, compared to nearly 70% of Americans who are 60 or older.

Many that do go to church attend Hillsong, Bethel, and Elevation-type megachurches that teach a false gospel and emphasize “experience” rather than the Gospel. Many subscribe to the “God is Love” mantra that omits the need for repentance from one’s sins. (See my August 6, 2022, post on this.) Because they are not familiar with scripture, many have fallen prey to serpent pastors who manipulate their congregations for personal profit. Worse, some of these false teachers profess that people can be saved even if they are unrepentant homosexuals.

Many take their very young children to drag shows sponsored by “churches” because they don’t see anything wrong with it...

It appears that a large proportion (but not all) of Generation Z members are friends of the world and have rejected the things of God. Will they ultimately be responsible for the death of America?

I pray not…

There is hope if those Gen Zer’s turn and begin to put their hope in the Lord rather than the things of our rapidly decaying culture…

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope”. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Another scholarly work by you Jim! Sadly, such writhing is considered hate speech by the pickled brain folk. But that is expected as we know the Word tells us that to proclaim the truth will be a target of the evil one.

Great post with astute observations. Researching my essay, it was sobering to realize the subtle and insidious way religion was removed and demonized in America by the Supreme Court, which no doubt had an effect on these poor confused and disturbed souls.

Your comments on how literally stupid they are. My wife found a satirical comedy movie called, "Idiocracy", can find it on " Freevee". Intelligent " people today don't have kids because of global warming, etc. The lower intelligent reproduce like rabbits. 500 years into the future the world is populated with idiots live with piles of garbage and can't figure out if you don't water crops they won't grow!

Looks like we are heading full speed in that direction!!!
