These New American Narratives Will Turn Your Stomach

We’re not in Kansas anymore...

I just returned to my desk from the shooting range west of town. It was time to meet up with a good friend and put a few rounds through my old Glock 43 pistol. I enjoy going to the range because it lets me blow off a little steam... along with another box of 9 mm ammo. It seems that the smell of gunpowder in the morning helps clear my head. It lets me stop thinking about what nonsense we are being asked... no... told to believe as truth these days.

People use all sorts of lies and deception to manipulate others, gain power, or even control populations through fear and intimidation. Commonly used tools are stories or narratives that describe an event, a situation, or an issue. Narratives can be written, spoken, or use images like artwork or movies.

Stories are a highly effective means of expressing one’s political vision and policies. Barack Obama, a brilliant communicator, argued for his policy agenda by telling the story of a nine-year-old who handed over the contents of his piggy bank to his father when he heard that he had lost his job. “This is not who we are”, Obama concluded. “We are not a nation that leaves struggling families to fend for themselves.” This is not just a story about an individual family but a story about the American dream and what it entails.

The best narratives have an emotional appeal rather than fact-based and are designed to influence readers, listeners, or viewers. They are intended to influence behaviors as well as thoughts. The best narratives are repeated often and by multiple sources over time.

Narratives can help create a shared sense of reality, a common understanding of what is true or false. But, when false narratives are repeatedly used to promote a political cause, they become propaganda. One of the most sinister narratives in history was that which came out of 1930s Nazi Germany’s Third Reich. Adolph Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, was a master manipulator who used a narrative to convince the German people that Jews were a genuine threat to the survival of their nation and must be exterminated.

The Nazi narrative was repeated over and over again through movies, art, music, books, radio, schools, and newspapers. Propaganda is a powerful weapon that can be used to dehumanize and create hatred by creating a false narrative in the mind of its target audience. The Nazi’s core message was that the Germans were racially superior, and Jews, gypsies, and the disabled represented serious threats to the purity of the German master race.

It took an Allied invasion of Germany and Hitler’s suicide to end the Nazi narrative. Sadly, 80 years later, many people find themselves caught up in other narratives… those of COVID-19, climate change, critical race theory, and sexual perversion.

Compared to the Nazi narrative, it seems like we live on an entirely different planet than the world of the 1940s. In the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy suddenly found herself in the land of Oz, an unfamiliar and uncomfortable place for her. Realizing it, she said to her dog, “Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore!”

Today, life in America seems to be turned upside down, backward, and inside out:

• Popular kid’s cartoons from Disney and Marvel have become indoctrination narratives designed to convince children that abnormal sexual behavior is normal.

• Parents are taking their children to “Pride” events and drag queen shows in churches. Just a few years ago, that would have been considered insane behavior. But the current narrative is that those things are normal, and there is something wrong with you if you disagree.

• Public schools are teaching children as young as four years old a narrative that maintains all forms of sexual perversion, including anal sex, are normal and acceptable, even a desirable lifestyle.

• Those who support and encourage the transgender movement foolishly spout the narrative that men can become pregnant.

• People are suddenly dying for no apparent reason other than the fact they had recently received the Covid vaccine, which the narrative tells us is perfectly safe.

• The bogus climate change narrative tells us we only have eight years left before the world melts down because you choose to drive your car and heat your home using fossil fuels. (All while they fly around in private jets.)

• The Critical Race Theory narrative tells us only our skin color matters and not the content of our character, making those who disagree are irredeemable white supremacists.

Even the classic movie the Wizard of Oz is now being corrupted by a man named Kenya Barris, who has been selected to write and direct the film’s upcoming remake. According to an interview with Variety, Barris announced he would turn it into a celebration of sodomy and LGBTQ propaganda.

Barris told Variety that LGBTQ representation would be featured in his Wizard of Oz remake. “The original was an allegory and a reflection of the way the world was at the time with things like the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl,” says Barris. “Now we’re going to turn a mirror on where we’re at right now and take disparate characters from the LGBTQ community, from different cultural communities and socioeconomic communities, and tell a story that reflects the world. I think this is the best time to do that.”

These stomach-turning narratives are being advanced in the same way Germany’s Third Reich did it in the 1930s and 40s... through movies, art, music, books, radio, schools, and newspapers. Today we can add to that the internet, TV, and the talking heads of the mainstream news media.

It’s enough to make you sick to your stomach...

What will it take to rid ourselves of these narratives and get back to Kansas?

It is well past time for all red-blooded Americans to turn away from these lies, turn off the TV shows, skip the movies and spend time guarding their children’s hearts and minds.

Maybe a little shooting range time wouldn’t hurt either...
