Jesus was the first human being that was ever born again. That’s correct. Have you not read Col 1?

Steve, thank you for your comment. It is a legitimate question. Col 1 refers to Christ as the "firstborn of all creation" and speaks of Christ’s preexistence.

In the verse, Jesus is called the firstborn, not "born again". The word "firstborn" (Greek word "prototokos") signifies priority. In the culture if the time, the firstborn was not necessarily the oldest child. Firstborns were referred not to birth order but to rank. The firstborn possessed the inheritance and leadership.

The phrase expresses the risen Christ’s sovereignty over creation. After resurrecting Jesus from the dead, God gave Him authority over the Earth (Matthew 28:18). Jesus created the world, saved the world, and rules the world. He has the rank of the self-existent, acknowledged Head of creation.

Finally, the phrase recognizes Him as the Messiah: "I will make Him [Christ] My firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth" (Psalm 89:27). Hope this helps.

Jesus was born once of Mary, yes? Jesus is born of the spirit, 1Pet 3:18, yes? Jesus is reborn in a way he wasn’t the first time - born again. No it’s not priority alone, Jesus is the very first to be given eternal life and cannot die again, Rom 9:5.

Jesus was born of the flesh, and was later born of the spirit at his resurrection - just as all believers will be at Jesus’ return.

Jesus always was... He was not given eternal life... he always had it.

You have no scripture to affirm that. Rather, For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. John 5:26

Clearly this is a point in time, obviously after his death!

1Pet 3:18

Please let’s use the biblical facts available and not rely on inferences and conjecture.

Acts 2:33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit

Rom 6:9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.

I could go on but you should recognise the burden of evidence from scripture in these few passages.

Steve, we are going to have to agree to disagree... Take for example the words of Jesus in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.” John reiterates the concept of Jesus’ deity: “The Word [Jesus] was God” and “the Word became flesh” (John 1:1, 14). If He is not God, His death would not have been sufficient to pay the penalty for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2). Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth … before Abraham was born, I AM!” This was a reference to Exodus 3:14 when God revealed Himself as the “I AM.” Christ always was...

Jim, we will disagree only because you are willing to believe one thing you have inferred from scripture while rejecting that which is plain and obvious and contradicts your belief.

A responsible Bible does not contradict itself, I gave the facts, clearly you don’t care for them but are bound by your indoctrination., sadly.

If you are willing to investigate why you live with contradiction, read any of my posts. God doesn’t contradict Himself either, so you must have something wrong.

Used to watch her on TBN, read her books, and even went to a few of her conferences as a teenager and young adult. After hearing her be quite defensive while at one of her conferences (in 2005?), I took it as a "warning light" and started looking more into her teachings. While her teachings fill a need regarding women's mental and emotional healing, her Biblical understanding seems to me to be very wonky.

I became a Christian and went to a Baptist church and I started watching TBN. I watched Joyce Myers and Paula White. I didn't know my Bible so I didn't know they were teaching wrong. But I wasted years not knowing the truth and true Jesus.

Thank you for warning others about the false teachers. Christians who lack discernment need to be warned about these wolves in sheep’s clothing so they will not be led astray.

And what are your views about Andrew Wommack?

Expand full comment
Jim McCraigh's avatar

Sadly, Andrew Wommack is a false teacher who should be avoided.

Wommack teaches that God’s will for every believer is to be healthy, wealthy, and successful and that faith is a tool believers can use to "speak" their desires into existence. says that Christians can control their health, finances, and circumstances by using faith-filled words and declarations. Scripture teaches that following Christ often involves suffering, trials, and hardship (John 16:33; 2 Timothy 3:12).

He also teaches unbiblical Views on healing and Atonement

Andrew Wommack is known for teaching that physical healing is guaranteed in the atonement and that it is always God’s will for believers to be healed.

However, while the Bible teaches that God is a healer and that He sometimes heals in response to prayer, it does not guarantee that all believers will experience physical healing in this life

A friend of ours worked providing support services at a venue she was speaking at. They were instructed to never look her in the eye or ever address her at any time. A more self absorbed person you would be hard pressed to find.

Jim....always enjoy your writing and "tone." Just my thoughts......I sometimes wonder if it's our responsibility only to teach the truth vs. erroneous doctrine and let others discern for themselves who the false teachers are.

My concern is that we're contributing to "sensationalism" when we call out specific names.

No argument, no anger ...... just conversation 😊

New Testament talks an incredible amount on false prophets. Why shouldn’t we talk about them specifically??

You're point is valid. Just reiterating what I mentioned previously . . . sensationalism has its own appeal to our senses, like a dopamine hit. My concern is that we don't focus more on what's wrong with them, over focusing on Christ. That's all.

I don’t understand what you’re trying to communicate, but it feels very lukewarm. If a wolf is a wolf, call it a wolf. How is that sensationalism? Truth is truth, is it not? Untruth is untruth, is it not? Joyce speaks untruths. In the Christian interpretation of the world, truths and misrepresentations of the TRUTH matters. I appreciate the literal warning.

She also invented the stupid idea that paying for some strangers meal in a restaurant is a way of giving that somehow glorifies God - which is just plane stupid. As if anyone in a restaurant needs your help to pay for their meals! Proverbs tells us that if we give to the poor you will be lending to the Lord and he will repay you. Her whole approach is superstitious nonsense.
